For the Montezuma-Cortez High School girls and boys cross-country teams, the Lloyd’s Lake in Monticello on Aug. 31 provided an opportunity to build conditioning and face out-of-state competition.
Leading the way for the M-CHS boys was John Whyte, who finished 12th with a time of 18:37.30. Behind Whyte were three M-CHS runners led by Davian Robinson, who finished 31st (20:05.50). Wes Atcitty crossed the line 32nd (20:09.80) and Ben Castillo-Calvillo finished 35th (20:27.70).
Josh Hughes finished 52nd (22:12.10), and Jadon Elliott placed 55th (23:31.50).
The M-CHS boys team finished fifth out of the six teams that qualified for the team standings. Monticello High School finished first overall.
On the girls side, M-CHS was led by Ridley Dennison and Ayanna Silas, who placed 20th (24:01.50) and 26th (24.56.20), respectively. Trinity Meyers placed 27th (24:57.20), Emalie Myers was 30th (25:21.70), and Marina Bradley was 38th (26:55.00).
The M-CHS girls team finished sixth out of the seven teams that qualified for the team standings, and Pagosa Springs High School finished first overall.
