In the light of recent events in Newtown, Conn., and the alleged end of the world threats on Dec. 21, precautions have been taken at Mancos schools. There is no school on Friday, Dec. 21, but Marshal Bill Knauer has said that he, and his deputies, will "make our presence known to reassure the parents" on Thursday, the last day of school before the holiday break.
Superintendent Brian Hanson said, "We've been given alerts from other schools and law enforcement to be on the lookout. We can't take any threats lightly," he said.
"It's going to be tough to ramp it up with limited manpower, but we and the school have taken every precaution to make sure the school is safe," said Knauer.
The marshal's office continues to respond to other citizens in town.
