Dear Editor:
I am a parent of a high school student in Dolores. My daughter told us about the Confederate flag being banned and I also read the article in your paper.
Now, I grew up in the south and the Confederate flag meant southern pride and nothing else. But, I understand if the superintendent must make changes to ensure safety and ensure that students are focusing on their studies. But, what I don't understand is why a teacher would be allowed to display a gay pride flag in the teacher's room. To me that would also be distracting for the students.
I think if you are going to ban certain "symbols" as was written in your article that all items that could possibly cause hate or distractions should be banned including gay pride flags.
