About 500 homes and businesses temporarily lost electrical power Wednesday afternoon after a car veered off County Road 29 and struck a utility pole.
According to a deputy with the Montezuma County Sheriff’s office, a middle-aged woman was found on the passenger side of the car and was taken to the hospital by Southwest Health System ambulance with unknown injuries.
The crash occurred shortly after noon.
Power was restored to most of the outage area northeast of Cortez, by 1:10 p.m., according to an Empire Electric Association spokeswoman, and the remaining area was expected to have power between 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The area impacted by the power outage includes neighborhoods northeast of Totten Lake along County Roads 29, N, L, 30, 30.1, 27.6 and 29.4.
According to a deputy at the scene, the car was northbound on County Road 29, ran a stop sign at Road M, then veered off the right side of the road, hitting the pole.
The crash remains under investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said.
