In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Cortez Middle School English teacher Lissa Lycan is planning a schoolwide gathering on Oct. 15 in the CMS cafeteria from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
“Hispanic Heritage Night is a chance to celebrate the amazing cultural diversity we have in our community and our schools,” Lycan said in a statement.
The event will include activities, art, performances and food created by local students and families, and Lycan is looking for wider involvement from the community as well.
“We are looking for volunteers to help plan activities, make food, play music or any other contribution that would make this night meaningful to our students and our community,” Lycan said in a statement.
Lycan says the event will be a small step toward the “important goal” of making Cortez Middle School “a place where everyone sees themselves as welcome.”
Interested volunteers, and anybody seeking more information, can email Lissa Lycan at llycan@cortez.k12.co.us.
