A woman who died Sunday in Iris Park under suspicious circumstances has been identified as Nicole Paula Wagner, 25, of Durango.
Wagner had been in Iris Park with her boyfriend around 10:25 a.m. when she collapsed, Durango Police Cmdr. Ray Shupe said. Police and EMTs performed CPR and used an external defibrillator to try to resuscitate Wagner, but their efforts were unsuccessful, Shupe said. He said Wagner was pronounced dead at the scene.
“We are investigating suspicious circumstances around her death,” Shupe said.
Shupe declined to name the individual with Wagner at the time of her death and did not say whether he was a suspect, citing an active investigation into the cause of her death.
An autopsy performed Wednesday was inconclusive, said La Plata County Coroner Jann Smith. Shupe said no obvious signs of trauma were found on her body when police responded Sunday.
The Coroner’s Office is waiting for the results of a toxicology report, which can take several weeks, before making a final ruling on cause of death, Smith said.
