Mother & Daughter Teatime Luncheon
Christian Women's Celebrations will be having a Snowflake Spectacular - Teatime by Candlelight Luncheon on Saturday, Jan. 5, at noon at the Elks Lodge, 2100 N. Dolores Rd. Mothers and daughters are invited and will be honored. A princess party dress fashion show will be featured by girls ages 4 to 18. Call 560-3328 if you would like to model. Songs with sparkle will be performed by Amanda, Skylar and Sariah Robinson. Speaker Teresa Reynolds will tell a story fit for a princess. Health presentation 'Heavy Metals and Depression'
"Heavy Metals and Depression - Make the Connection" will be presented by Dyanna Hoffman, Natural Health Practitioner, on Friday, Jan. 4 from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Mesa/Canyon Room at the Cortez Recreation Center. Quilt meeting on Jan. 8
The January Dolores Quilt Guild meeting will be held at the Community Center, 400 Riverside Ave. Dolores, Tuesday, Jan. 8, because of the holidays. Our program will be a cleaver Valentine purse. We are in early stages of organizing a three-day winter sewing retreat on the last weekend of February. Come join us for three days of eating and chatting. We may even get a little sewing done.
Lacey to speak on Spring House
The Hisatsinom Chapter of the Colorado Archaeological Society is pleased to present Dr. Patricia Flint Lacey on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 7 P.M. at the First Methodist Church, 515 North Park Street, Cortez, to discuss architectural documentation of Spring House, a large unexcavated cliff dwelling on Long Mesa at Mesa Verde National Park. Spring House has nearly 85 rooms and seven kivas, similar in size to Spruce Tree House. In the upper part of the Spring House alcove there are eight rooms with remarkable preservation of their wood, adobe floors, and pink-and-tan plastered walls.
Lacey came to southwest Colorado in 1982 to work on the Dolores Archaeological Project after completing her doctoral studies in anthropology at the University of Oregon. Over the past 30 years she has worked and volunteered for the BLM Anasazi Heritage Center as a museum educator and researcher.
For the past two years she has worked for Mesa Verde National Park.

Back Country Horsemen to meet Jan. 10
The Four Corners Back Country Horsemen will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, Jan. 10, at the La Plata County Fairgrounds. Social time will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will start at 7. Guests are always encouraged to attend.
Barry Owen will be conducting a sharpening clinic, demonstrating sharpening techniques for various tools including those that are equine related. You're invited to bring a tool with you that you would like to learn a sharpening technique for. Barry owns Columbine Sharpening and is certified by the National Shear Sharpening Guild.

Dolores Rotary Club Bingo Night is Jan. 29
The Dolores Rotary Club will not sponsor a bingo night for December. We want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! The Dolores Rotary Club will continue their bingo season by sponsoring a bingo night on Tuesday, Jan. 29 at the Dolores Community Center located at 400 Riverside Avenue. A light supper and dessert will be served starting at 6:30 p.m. for $5.00 with bingo following at 7 p.m. Cards are $1 per game or $10 for the evening. All proceeds will benefit the Galloping Goose Society.
