Cortez Middle School celebrates Hispanic heritage

Students explore Latin American culture and history
Students gather in front of a movie screen before a showing of “Coco” in the Cortez Middle School library on Monday night. The movie was influenced by traditions surrounding Día de Muertos, a Mexican holiday for praying for and remembering friends and family who have died.
Posters sharing information about Latin American countries hung on bookshelves in the Cortez Middle School library Monday night. The projects were created by students in Lisa Baer’s Spanish class.
Cortez Middle School students serve homemade chips, salsa and other food to Hispanic Heritage Night guests. Much of the food at the event was prepared by eighth-grade students in Melinda Martinez’s family consumer science class.
Día de Muertos-inspired crafts created by Cortez Middle School students and Hispanic Heritage Night guests adorned the walls and tables around the CMS library Monday night.
