Chamber seeks nominees for annual community awards
The Cortez Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for their annual prestigious awards to recognize leaders and businesses making significant contributions to the community.
Nominations will be accepted through Sunday, Jan. 27 and the awards will be presented at a ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 23. For more than 50 years, the Cortez Area Chamber of Commerce has recognized individuals, groups and businesses by awarding those who have benefited the community and exemplified excellence in their fields.
The Chamber needs the public's help to find individuals and businesses to join the ranks of the Chamber's "Best of the Best" in the following categories:
Cortez Journal's Citizen of the Year
Dad & Daughter's Agribusiness of the Year
Empire Electric's Green Business of the Year

January blood drives will take
place in region
United Blood Services will hold several area mobile blood drives in January. The first will be on Tuesday, Jan. 15 in Cortez at the Cortez Middle School cafeteria, 450 W. 2nd St. from 3 to 6 p.m. On Thursday, Jan. 17, the blood drive will be at First Methodist Church's hall, 515 N. Park St. from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. On Friday, Jan. 18, the Ute Mountain Casino will host the blood drive in their Bingo Hall, 3 Weeminuche Dr., Towaoc, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mancos will be the location for the blood drive on Monday, Jan. 28 at the Mancos Community Center, 130 Grand Ave., from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Finally, Keesee Motors in Cortez will host the final blood drive in Cortez at their location at 115 S.
