Site of spring McPhee fish die-off is repaired

Headgate repairs provide fresh water to retainment ponds
The Bureau of Reclamation cut through the red tape and fixed a long-broken inlet system on McPhee Reservoir designed to fill two retention ponds that provide fishing and prevent mudflats on the outskirts of Dolores.
These ponds on McPhee Reservoir near Dolores are designed to prevent a mudflat. A broken inlet pipe directing fresh water from the Dolores River into the ponds has been repaired.
In March, low oxygen levels in the ponds killed at least 300 fish, including bass, kokanee salmon, trout and crappie.
Jim Koenig discusses the fish kill in the ponds by McPhee Reservoir. A recent pond repair should help prevent the problem.
