Our liberal friends keep telling us that if we will just ban guns most evil people will just disappear. Now I am certain they would never dream of tossing a homemade bomb into a classroom or theater or would they think of using any of the hundreds of other ways to kill people.
But when we try to explain that honest people actually use guns for self-defense, they tell us that we should not try to defend ourselves but should beg for mercy and wait for help. What they don't tell us is that studies have shown that guns are used in this country more than 2.5 million times a year for self-defense most times without a shot being fired. Now 2.5 million is a fairly substantial number. Out of that number how many assaults, rapes and murders were prevented? No one knows, but if we use a very conservative number of 1 percent that comes to 25,000, but we never hear about them, do we? Then they say, but we don't need assault rifles. Then we have to ask what is an assault rifle? FBI reports show that many more people are killed each year with hammers and clubs than are killed with rifles and twice as many are killed with hands or fists than rifles. So what do we ban next? It has been proven time and time again that gun bans don't work. It's time to look at the real problem.
