The Dolores River Anglers chapter of Trout Unlimited has numerous events planned for this summer.
On Saturday, June 4 is the seventh annual Cortez Fishing Derby at Parque La Vida pond. The event draws 90-100 kids who receive fly-casting instruction (9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.), fly casting accuracy contest (2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.), and the fishing derby itself from 5 p.m. to dusk.

A first time event for the group is Summerfest, an all day event on the upper Dolores River for anglers. The August date is TBD. Activities range from fly-cast coaching, instructions on gearing up, fly-tying demo, how to read a stream, and a “buddy up” mentoring event where participants sign up to fish the Dolores or stream with a coach. A picnic will be held in the evening and possibly a camp out for those interested.

TU is working with the Town of Mancos to develop a river walk and park plan. The first step is a river clean-up event. on a date to be determined.
Also, on June 4-5 there will be a free fishing day at Jackson Lake. There will fly casting instruction, and kids practice on plastic fish. Volunteers are needed.
