Applications are now being accepted for the Dean Hanson Memorial Scholarships presented by the Four Corners Board of Realtors. Six $1,000 scholarships are available for traditional and non-traditional students who are a resident of Montezuma or Dolores counties seeking post-secondary or graduate education.
Deadline for scholarship applications is April 15. Applications need to be turned in to the Four Corners Board of Realtors at 925 South Broadway, Suite 222 in Cortez, emailed to fcboardofrealtors@gmail.com, or drop off at the counselor's office. Applications are also available at www.fourcornersboardofrealtors.com, the counselor's office in the high schools in Montezuma and Dolores counties or at the Board of Realtors office.
For high school or college students, the application must include an official transcript of the student's records from the beginning of grade nine to the due date of the applications or G.E.D; and the results of college entrance examinations (CEEB, SAT, ACT), or copy of acceptance letter from a school of higher education. The applicant must also provide an essay, two letters of recommendation stating why you should be considered for this scholarship and the FASFA Student Aid Report family contribution page. Photocopies are acceptable.
For non-traditional students, the application must include an official transcript of the student's records from the beginning of grade nine to the due date of the application or G.E.D. If official transcripts are unavailable; applicants may substitute a resumé describing job experience relevant to the course of study being pursued. A FAFSA report is required but if a FAFSA report is unavailable the applicant may substitute income tax returns from the past two years.
The application must also include an essay describing the applicant's goals and aspirations and how the scholarship will be used. The application also must have an acceptance letter from the educational institution where the scholarship applicant has applied, and two letters of recommendation stating why applicant should be considered for the scholarship.
