Program's goal is to recognize need for awareness

5:30 p.m. Thursday: Pagosa Springs Avalanche Awareness Class, Pagosa Springs Library, 811 San Juan St., Pagosa Springs.
Friday: Joe Philpott/Peter Carver Avalanche Scholarship Fund application deadline: submit essay on relevance of candidacy, two references, Friends of the San Juans membership and volunteer status to Jeremy Dakan at Pine Needle Mountaineering or at jeremy@pineneedle.com.
6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10: Benefit for Friends of The Colorado Avalanche Information Center, fundraiser and announcement of scholarship recipients at the Powerhouse Science Center.
6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18: Avalanche Awareness Class at Pine Needle Mountaineering, for those who could not make November class.
January: A series of workshops and on-snow sessions. Dates to be announced.
