Benefit dinner for accident victim
A spaghetti dinner benefit will be held at the Cortez Elks Club on Saturday, March 9 from 6 to 8 p.m., to help Matt Knisley with his medical expenses he has incurred from a snowboarding accident in January. Chuck Pyle to play at Millwood
The Mancos Heritage Project, a project that is beautifying Mancos, is going to have a fundraiser concert at the Millwood Junction Restaurant in Mancos. It will feature Chuck Pyle, known as the Zen Cowboy.
On Saturday, March 9 at 8 p.m., Pyle will bring his country/contemporary folk music to the crowd.
The opening act is Katya Chorover, a guitarist who brings a country/folk mix to her music.
Tickets are $15 and are available at Southwest Sound in Durango and Rocky Mountain OneStop in Cortez and at the Millwood Junction.
Mancos Melt
The Mancos Melt will be March 14-16 with a kick-off wine and hors d'oeuvre tasting at Olio on March 14. Many more events include the Snow Show, a fashion show, pancake breakfast, kids' scavenger hunt, bird feeder contest, bed races, chili cook-off, golf tournament, corn beef and cabbage dinner, and a hoedown. The theme this year is Vampire and Zombies - "Day of the Living Dead". The schedule will soon be on the website at www.mancosonthemove.com. Spring Hoedown multi-band fundraiser
The Spring Hoedown fundraiser is set for Saturday, March 16 from 5:30 to 11 p.m. at the Mancos Opera House. This event benefits Montezuma School to Farm Project and Pay It Forward Fund. There will be musical performances by Robbie Overfield and the Breaks, Hello Dollface, Caruta Roma, as well as square dancing and line-dancing. There will also be a silent auction, and food, beer and wine will be available for purchase. Admission is $20 for adults; ages 17 and under are free. Tickets are available at Maria's Bookstore (Durango), Zuma Natural Foods (Mancos), Dolores Food Market, Spruce Tree Espresso (Cortez), or at the door. Concert association seeks memorabilia
Southwest Colorado Concerts will celebrate its 60th season next season, and the organization is looking for memorabilia from concerts past. Started in 1954 as Basin Community Concerts Association, and it has hosted a winter concert series in Cortez every year since then. The organization is putting together a history of the association, and are looking for programs, posters, brochures or other memorabilia. Community Yoga
All levels are welcome at Community Yoga held twice a week on Mondays from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Cortez Cultural Center and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Rhonda Allmon's Dance Studio. Amateur photo contest
The Cortez, Dolores and Mancos Area Chambers of Commerce are hosting an amateur photo contest for budding photographers. The purpose of the contest is to generate a photo library for use by the local Chambers for the promotion of the Montezuma County Area. Photos should capture the beauty of the people, scenery, personality, history or natural elements which contribute to the profile of our quality of life here in Montezuma County. Three photographs will be selected as first, second and third place with two honorable mention entries. There will be cash prizes for the top three photos and they will be placed on the chamber websites and in locations around the county for all to see. Submissions to be juried will be accepted through June 21 and winners will be decided in July. A signed release form must be submitted to the Cortez Area Chamber of Commerce at 928 E. Main St. Only original photos taken by a photographer in Montezuma County will be accepted.
