Animal art takes over Farm Bistro during fundraiser

Third annual art show sees growth, benefits humane societies
Animal-themed paintings took over the walls at The Farm Bistro over the weekend, for the third annual Animal Art Works show.
Artists received 50 percent of the sales from their submissions, and the rest of the revenue (after materials costs) went to the Blackhat and For Pets’ Sake humane societies.
More than 100 people showed up to the Animal Art Works, a record number, according to event organizer Sonja Horoshko.
The artwork ranged in price from $90 to $250, and pieces were limited in size to 18 inches in width or height.
Alex York, a 16-year-old attending Southwest Open School, was one of a handful of high school students to submit artwork to the Animal Art Works show.
A fiddle-guitar duo serenaded attendees Saturday night at the Animal Art Works show.
The Animal Art Works show has grown in the past three years, said Sonja Horoshko, who hopes to continue expanding arts programming in Cortez. More than 100 people attended the show this year, up from 80 last year.
All the artwork at the Animal Art Works featured animals, although the mediums used for paintings ranged from ink to oils to acrylic.
