The Fire Program at the Dolores Public Lands Office plans to burn slash piles, which are the result of debris left over from various timber cutting areas and fuel reduction projects. Pile burning may begin as early as March 25.

Slash pile locations include fuels reduction projects in the Chicken Creek/Millwood areas, off FS RD 559 and Grouse Point and South Carver areas on Haycamp Mesa off FS RD 556.

All pile burning will take place in ponderosa pine forests with Gambel oak understory, and will be monitored by a local staff of qualified firefighters. The projects are contingent on weather conditions that will help to assure predictable fire behavior and maximum smoke dispersion.
