Hi! I’m back – sort of. One good thing about broken bones – they don’t interfere too much with your brain. I just have to wait for a bone to heal so I can get out and snoop around again.
In the meantime, thanks so much, Bob Scott, for filling in for me: correcting, typing and keeping us all happy and presentable.
I have two dogs who miss me, and I miss them, so all decided that the Mancos Valley Inn was the place for me to recuperate. It’s close to home, and they allow dogs to visit. One other super thing right about being local are the milkshakes at Cox Conoco – rich and delicious with a large choice of flavors. Go to the back of the store, mix your own, and expect to return often. Thanks to Lyle for the great treats and thanks to those that bring them to me.
The running MullikinsBig news in the running field – Annette Mullikin, our own special physical therapist, and her daughter, Elisa, and son, Ian, have been accepted to run in the Boston Marathon in April. More about that later, but congratulations are due now – even being accepted is a great honor. What is it about Mancos and its runners? Anyone know anything about our running history? Someone must have been key to getting it started. Let me know if you have info by calling 970-533-1525.
Who wants $20?I had a strange experience a few weeks back. I was out pulling some weeds in my front yard. The ground was soft, and the weeding was not hard to do, but I was getting tired. Two girls, probably 14 to 15 years old, walked by, and I asked “Do you want to earn $20?” They looked at me and said, “No thanks.” I was dumbfounded. Almost anyone would have said “yes” in my lifetime. What is it with this generation?
My friends tell me how hard it is to find kids to do chores – mowing the lawn, weeding, taking things out to the trash! Didn’t you do any of these chores? Do you remember walking down the street, jingling the coins in your pocket and knowing that you could buy almost anything with your own money? Think how proud you were to offer to buy your girlfriend a soda or join the group for pizza. Now it seems kids just ask for the money and apparently, parents give it to them. Back then we felt proud to know that we earned it.
It's parent time nowFinally, time for adults again – kids are in school, and we can enjoy Disneyland again (still kids at heart). We can pack a lunch, put the dog in the car and go pretty much wherever we want.
Well, almost. Some parks don’t allow dogs except on leash. Our dogs love to tag along until they get tired. To the rescue, here comes my friendly dog lover – planning to start a “doggy daycare.” How neat it will be to drop Fido off at a shady, cool yard with comfortable couches and chairs, treats, lots of water and playthings. At day’s end, we’ll come back to a group of friendly, well-rested dogs. So they didn’t get to see the great whatever. Do they really care? They’ll welcome your return, and that’s what matters.
See you next week – hopefully more news about news as I get around more. Thank you for reading, and stay healthy.
