Editor:
It seems our sheriff has decided he has been empowered by the sanctity of his office to be the arbiter of our constitutional rights, and pick and choose which laws he will uphold. I was under the impression that our Legislature was the proper body to make these decisions, with a legal process in the courts available to test their validity.
If it would not be too much trouble, perhaps Sheriff Spruell could list all the laws that he feels are just and enforceable, and which are not. It would be a great convenience for the citizenry if we could predict the likely repercussions of our transgressions (or not) as we go about our business. For, as we all know, bad laws and bad lawmen breed nothing but contempt for the law.
