The Southwestern Colorado Area Health Education Center (SWCAHEC) has presented Southwest Colorado Community College (SCCC) with the 2013 Southwestern Colorado Nightingale Scholarship. The scholarship is made possible through contributions from regional business and organization sponsors: Southwest Memorial Hospital and nurse managers in Cortez, Mercy Regional Medical Center and Southwest Women's Health Associates in Durango, and Dr. Mary Medical Foundation in Pagosa Springs.
"This scholarship could really make a difference in the academic success of one of our current students," said Nora Flucke, Department of Nursing and branch campus coordinator at SCCC.
Flucke said the scholarship money will be offered to an eligible student facing financial hardship due to an unforeseen circumstance threatening to hinder progress within the program.
Current nursing students may apply for the scholarship at SCCC. Application forms will be available at the Health Sciences front desk at 701 Camino del Rio in Durango or by calling 247-2929 to request a copy by email. The application deadline is May 10.
SWCAHEC is a regional non-profit organization in Southwestern Colorado that broadly focuses on improving rural health. SWCAHEC provides support and programs for students interested in health professional careers.
