Durango woman recalls days of Rosie the Riveter

Anne Isgar turned 99 this month
Anne Isgar celebrated her 99th birthday in her La Plata County home on Wednesday. Isgar once worked on World War II airplanes and proudly connects with iconic Rosie the Riveter that symbolizes women who worked for the war effort.
Anne Isgar, 99, grew up in Durango, but while visiting her sister in the early 1940s, she saw an article in a newspaper looking for people to build fighter planes. She was one of 24 women selected to work in the factory.
Anne Isgar made this card and hand knitted booties for her grand children. Isgar recently celebrated her 99th birthday. She and her family have long ties to La Plata County.
Anne Isgar said working for the war effort in the 1940s gave women a sense of empowerment. She said she’s carried that experience her entire life.
