As Earth Day 2019 approaches, the threat of climate change looms large. Can individuals really make a difference in our day-to-day lives?
We think so! A small group of your Montezuma County neighbors invites you to a Potluck for the Planet sponsored by the newly-formed High Desert Vegetarians & Vegans.
Food has a carbon footprint. Did you know: The carbon footprint of a vegetarian diet is roughly half that of a meat-lover’s diet? Another reason to eat less meat is for our own health. A host of illnesses are linked to excess meat consumption; cutting back and adding plant-based proteins is a healthy alternative. A third reason to reduce meat intake is for the welfare of sentient, nonhuman animals.
If you’re curious about or interested in reducing or eliminating your meat intake – for planetary health, personal health or animal welfare – join us to learn more and to enjoy camaraderie in a supportive atmosphere.
If you’re already vegetarian or vegan, come help promote this responsible and compassionate lifestyle.
Details: Potluck for the Planet on Earth Day, 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 22, at St. Barnabas Church Hall, 110 W. North Ave., Cortez.
Bring a vegetarian dish (no meat, including meat-based broths and gelatin), or a vegan dish (no meat, gelatin, dairy, eggs or honey) to share. Beverages will be provided.
