Dear Editor:
I would like to give a big thanks to Dolores Star Editor, Shannon Livick. She is bringing important and timely news to the people of Dolores.
For example, just last week Ms. Livick reported that the school construction project is way over budget. The school board met quickly, without much time for public input, and voted to spend an additional $750,000 for the new school. Her article was very accurate and stated the facts of the meeting very clearly. I would, however, like to add that there are entities to blame for being over budget - the administration and the school board. They have directed and driven this process from the beginning. If they do not have enough integrity to stand up and take responsibility for their actions, what message does that send to the students of Dolores public schools?
Just a note to the Dolores School Board: If you think reporting this news to the public is bad policy, maybe you are taking the wrong action. Don't blame the messenger!
