On May 5, new members were inducted into the Mancos High school Cyril Conway Chapter of the National Honor Society. The ceremony began with the processional of new members.
Zane Willburn, NHS president, gave the welcome and opening remarks. The ceremony was led by the current members, who gave the Cyril Conway Chapter history and lit candles to represent the four pillars of NHS (scholarship, leadership, service and character), giving explanations of each.
The guest speaker was Mancos Mayor Rachel Simbeck.
The evening culminated with the new member induction and candlelighting, followed by the NHS pledge, recited by all members.
New members are Kia Baikie, Brandy Bundy, Micala Stevenson, Courtney Colyer, Marie DelaCruz, Morgan Lincoln, Andie Paschal, Jayden Peacock, Jessica Willburn and Sierra Wilson.
National Honor Society members are selected based on academic achievement, leadership qualities, community service and moral character.
