Annual drug awareness campaign comes to Lewis-Arriola
Lewis-Arriola Elementary students check out a Colorado National Guard Black Hawk helicopter that landed on their campus Tuesday afternoon.
The Black Hawk helicopter flew in to Lewis-Arriola from Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora. It had been scheduled to land at Parque de Vida in the morning, but had to cancel that flight due to maintenance issues.
Students shout and wave to the helicopter to coax it land on their school site. The landing is sponsored by the Colorado National Guard, as part of a Red Ribbon Week anti-drug campaign.
The Black Hawk helicopter comes in for a landing at the elementary school along U.S. Highway 491.
Members of the Colorado National Guard and U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency disembark at Lewis-Arriola Elementary to talk to students about making good choices and saying no to drugs.
