Wildfires may bring fast evacuations

When a wildfire threatens

Here are some important tasks you can do when a wildfire is imminent:
Change into fire-resistant nor natural-fiber clothing.
Confine pets so that they cannot hide. (Sirens and smoke may scare them.)
Be sure gutters, roof and valley are clear of leaves, needles and dead branches.
Remove combustible materials — lawn furniture, doormats, garden accessories and tarps, etc. — from decks and around the yard.
Close attic, basement, outside and pet doors, vents and windows.
Remove flammable drapes from windows. Close shutters and blinds.
Connect garden hose and fill large containers with water inside and outside.
Open any gates for livestock and feed and water.
Wet down vegetation within 30 feet of the home.
Leave doors and windows unlocked. Disconnect garage door opener for firefighter access.
Shut off natural gas or propane supplies at the source.
Place “This home is evacuated” sign at front door with names, location and phone number when leaving.
