LAKEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Eli Tomac, the GEICO Honda rider from Cortez, Colo., won the 250 division at the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship in Lakewood on Saturday. It was Tomac’s first victory in his home state, finishing second in the first moto and winning the second.
“It feels good to get the win today,” Tomac said, “I feel like I’ve kind of let Colorado down the past few years. I actually haven’t been close to leading a race here at all, so to finally make it happen today was sweet.”
Ryan Villopoto swept the 450 class motos Saturday at Thunder Valley Motocross Park to remain perfect after two rounds.
Villopoto, the Monster Energy Kawasaki star from Poulsbo, Wash., also swept the motos last week in the season-opening Hangtown event in California.
The riders wore “Oklahoma Strong” stickers to honor the tornado victims.
