The Boggy Draw prescribed fire burned about 1,400 acres north of Dolores over the weekend.
A prescribed burn is designed to crawl along the forest floor to reduce dead fall, ladder fuels and accumulated pine needles on the forest floor.
A prescribed burn north of Dolores sent up a column of smoke over the weekend. Ignition operations have ended, but the fire will smolder for weeks.
The Boggy Draw area is still under a temporary closure while a controlled burn wraps up. It is expected to reopen this week.
