Last week I was traveling from Salida to Mancos towing a trailer. Passes had included Monarch, Red Mountain and Molas — many steep and winding miles and a heck of a long day. I was about ready to drop into Mancos from the top of the final pass when I had a blowout on the trailer. Within a couple of minutes, two off-duty law enforcement officers appeared in their pickups, lined up their trucks behind me in protective manner and offered to fix the flat. They pulled out the jack and lug wrench and went to work. They were off duty. I didn’t get their names. One worked east of the pass, the other west.
They wanted no remuneration, and so, this public, heartfelt thanks. They were nothing short of angels.
