Mullane is a staff writer covering the Pine River Valley, including Bayfield and Ignacio. She will cover stories for the Pine River Times website, www.pinerivertimes.com, and the Bayfield and Ignacio pages that run every Friday in the Herald.
On her way to a career in journalism, she studied international politics at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, explored Europe for 1½ years and earned a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Colorado Boulder. There, she focused on environmental, political and community reporting. Before joining the Herald, Mullane worked as a reporting intern at the Colorado Independent; wrote stories for her college paper, Under the Flatirons; and has served as a research assistant at CU.
She loves photography, cycling, live music and the occasional backcountry escape.
Mandile is a summer intern covering general assignments. He is a senior at Fort Lewis College, where he is majoring in journalism and multimedia studies. He minored in political science and hopes that will give him a better understanding of the topics he hopes to cover during his career.
He also reports for and is the managing editor for the college newspaper, The Independent. He is interested in photography, nonfiction writing and human rights issues.
He is a master’s student of journalism at American University in Washington where he focuses on political reporting and community issues such as affordable housing. He is looking forward to finding the local angle to national stories.
Originally from St. Petersburg, Florida, Marshall studied international affairs at Florida State University as an undergraduate and taught English for three years before moving to journalism. When he’s not reporting, he enjoys playing pickup soccer and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen.
