Dolores Mountain Quilt Guild's monthly meeting
The Dolores Mountain Quilt Guild's monthly membership meeting is held on the first Tuesday of every month at 10 a.m. at the Dolores Community Center. Our purpose is to advance the art of quilting by improving our skills, teaching others what we have learned and using this knowledge to serve our community. Anyone interested in quilting is welcome to attend.

Back Country Horsemen's monthly meeting
The Four Corners Back Country Horsemen will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, August 8 at 7 p.m. at the Pine River Senior Center in Bayfield. Guests are always encouraged to attend.
Margie Coates will be discussing Leave No Trace principles - how to leave the wilderness as you found it.
The Four Corners Back Country Horsemen works to perpetuate commonsense enjoyment of public lands by horsemen and pack stock users.

Tdap clinic for sixth-graders to be held Aug. 8
Montezuma County Public Health Department (MCPHD) will be holding a Tdap walk-in clinic for students entering the sixth grade.
The clinic will be held Aug. 8 from 1 to 4 p.m. The clinic will be only for students entering the sixth grade and will offer only Tdap, which is a school requirement.
MCPHD can bill Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Colorado, Rocky Mountain HMO, CHP+, and Medicaid. Other fees may apply. Appointments can be scheduled on Mondays except holidays from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

K-9 SAR pancake breakfast
The K-9 Search and Rescue Team will again be sponsoring its Annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, Aug. 10, at Escalante Days.
Based in Dolores, K-9 Search and Rescue Team Inc. is a nonprofit organization with no tax base that depends solely on donations, grants and fundraisers for support.
The annual pancake breakfast is the team's largest and only major fundraising event of the year.
Money from the pancake breakfast help buy and update equipment, and maintain basic operational readiness. More importantly, it helps the team to maintain the ability to offer their services free to the lost or missing.

League of Women Voters on hospital de-Brucing
On Saturday, Aug. 17 at 9 a.m. at the Ponderosa Restaurant, 108 S. Eighth Street in Dolores, the League of Women Voters will present a program about an issue that will appear on the November ballot.
Bill Thompson, chairman of the Montezuma County Hospital District Board (MCHD) will discuss why local voters will be asked to approve easing of restrictions imposed on the District by Colorado law.
The restrictions are limiting the ability of the District to obtain State grants for equipment that benefits the hospital and the community.
No tax increase is involved.

Responsible Fatherhood class to be held Aug. 28
The Piñon Project is pleased to offer a Responsible Fatherhood class that will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 28, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at The Piñon Project, 300 N. Elm St., Cortez. Dinner and child care will be provided.
The curriculum is 15 weeks long. All fathers are welcome to join the program at any time.

Artist-in-Residence to speak
On Thursday, September 12, textile artist Sue King from Lancaster, Ohio, will speak about her work as an art quilter and demonstrate the use of silk screening as a form of surface design.
Participants can make a textile postcard as a memento of their visit to the park, or screen a design on an item of their own clothing.
The free event will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the library downstairs at Far View Lodge, Mesa Verde National Park and is open to all.
Supplies will be provided, but participants must bring their own item of clothing, such as a T-shirt, to screen if desired.
Mesa Verde National Park offers a look into the lives of the ancestral Puebloan people who made it their home for over 700 years, from A.D. 600 to A.D. 1300.
Today, the park protects almost 5,000 known archeological sites, including 600 cliff dwellings and alcove sites.
