The Dolores Public Library will begin its after-school reading and writing program next week for kindergarten through fifth-grade students.
The program is free, but parents must sign up their kids in person at the library. Kindergarteners and first-graders are bused to the library from Dolores schools. Children's librarian Kathy Butler meets the other students in front of the school after class and escorts them safely across the highway and to the library.
Kindergarten and first-grade Ready Readers trade off every other Monday from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The program begins Sept. 9.
Second- and third-grade Rainbow Readers trade off every other Tuesday from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Fourth- and fifth-grade Roaring Readers meet on Wednesdays at 2 p.m. and at 3:30 p.m. for 1½ hours.
An after-school creative writing program is held every other Thursday for fourth- and fifth-graders at 3:30 p.m. and second- and third-graders at 4:30 p.m.
Preschool story time is held every Wednesday at 10 a.m.
