During Mancos High School’s 58-31 road victory over Sargent High School on Sept. 20, running back Chase Moore was unstoppable.
Taking handoff after handoff and running away from defenders, the sophomore rushed for 398 yards and four touchdowns on 18 total carries during a performance that will not soon be forgotten.
The Mancos running back also made three catches for 72 total yards and scored one touchdown as the Bluejays overcame a 15-14 halftime deficit and coasted to a 58-31 victory. The win improved Mancos’ record to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in the A-8 Mountain League.
Other key performers for the Bluejays offense included quarterback Breccen Morelli, who carried the ball 10 times for 41 yards and scored one touchdown. The senior also completed 5 of 6 passes for 81 yards and a touchdown.
The Mancos defense was led by junior linebacker Colt Fury, who registered 19 tackles and two sacks. Junior linebacker Christian Cova registered 17 total tackles, and senior defensive back Anthony Medina showcased his speed while returning an interception for a touchdown.
Next up for the Bluejays will be a homecoming matchup against Del Norte High School, on Sept. 27. It will be Mancos’ first game on its new field.
