Riding a two-tournament win streak and hungry for another victory, the Montezuma-Cortez High School boys’ team came up short at the Cobble Creek Golf Club in Montrose on Aug. 29.
Competing against 15 high schools, the Panthers finished fourth overall with a score of 237 behind Basalt, Durango and Montrose.
Senior Jakob Rudosky paced the Panthers with a round of 76, while junior Hayden Plewe carded a 79. Other varsity scorers for the Panthers included Ryan Aiken (82), Levi Gross (84) and Tristan Shelby (89).
“I know that we didn’t play as well as we wanted to,” said head coach Micah Rudosky. “A lot of that has to do with course management. Our guys made some poor club selections. We’ve played that course enough that we should know better.”
With two tournaments in Durango this week and regionals fast approaching, Rudosky is looking for improvement.
“I’m trying to get these kids to understand that every shot counts,” said Rudosky. “We’ve got to make sure we take care of these things before regionals.”
Hoping to improve on their recent performance in Montrose, the Panthers will return to Montrose for a tournament on Sept. 3 at Black Canyon Golf Club and a tournament on Sept. 4 at the Bridges Golf Club.
