The facility won’t include cultivation or growing components, City Manager Shane Hale said.
Chris Wolf, a co-owner of the business, said planning for the shop had been in the works for six months.
“We understand that this is a privilege and not a right,” he said.
Police Chief Roy Lane said he had no issues with the business locating there. City Planner Tracie Hughes said the location met all the zoning requirements for a marijuana shop. Hale added that shops that do not have growing components typically maintain compliance with city codes.

Council OKs water system contractThe council also approved awarding a $60,263 contract to SGM Inc. of Glenwood Springs for a hydraulic modeling system of the city’s water distribution system.
The city received six bids for the modeling system. Two bids were too expensive, said Public Works Director Phil Johnson, and a $30,000 bid didn’t meet the request for proposal’s requirements, he said. A $28,600 bid, the least expensive option, was rejected because the engineering firm was not as well-qualified as SGM, Johnson said. The department also received a $25,000 grant from the Department of Local Affairs to cover some cost of the project.

A $20,511 contract to Stripe-A-Lot Inc. for street stripe painting, which will run from 2016 to 2018,A $25,410 contract to Graybar for construction of a new fiber optics route,A $5,811 contract to Biard Brothers’ for concrete work at the golf course,A $52,561 contract to Oldcastle SW Group Inc. for removal and replacement of asphalt from the Centennial Park parking lot, andPurchase of a $7,565 blower unit and $14,919 broadcast top dresser unit for the golf course maintenance department.Liquor licenses approvedIn the council’s consent agenda, members approved the renewal of a hotel and restaurant liquor license for Elm Street Tavern and Conquistador Golf Course, renewal of a 3.2 percent beer retail liquor license for the Maverik convenience store at 455 State St. and the Giant convenience store at 921 E. Main St., and renewal of a retail marijuana license for Durango Organics at 1104 E. Main St.
