Update: Kokanee spawn is less than expected on Dolores River

Few fish likely at Dolores giveaway; Lake Nighthorse holds more hope

There will very few kokanee to hand out this year at the Dolores fish giveway, 3 p.m., Oct. 24. People are highly encouraged to attend giveaways Nov. 1, 8 and 15 at Lake Nighthorse, where kokanee are abundant. Gates will open at 2 p.m., and fish are handed out beginning at 3 p.m.
The kokanee salmon run was weak this year on the Dolores River, so there will be far fewer fish to give away. The public is advised to attend the giveaways at Lake Nighthorse on Nov. 1, 8 and 15. Gates open at 2 p.m., and fish are handed out beginning at 3 p.m.
