After engaging in two more five-set thrillers, it would be difficult to argue with the assertion that this year's Dolores Bears volleyball team has a flair for the dramatic.
Two days after suffering a five-set loss to Dove Creek on Tuesday, Sept. 17, the Bears travelled to Pagosa Springs on Thursday, Sept. 19, winning a tough five set match, 25-20, 18-25, 25-23, 22-25, 15-13.
Two days later, on Saturday, Sept. 21, the Bears traveled to Telluride and engaged in another five-set war.
After dropping the first set to Telluride by a score of 19-25, the Bears were again outclassed in the second set, losing by a score of 15-25.
With their backs against the wall, the Bears would wake up, however, winning the next two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-20.
As the match hung in the balance, the Bears engaged in one of the most exciting fifth sets of the season, eventually outlasting Telluride by a score of 18-16.
With the wins, the Bears improved their record to 6-3 on the season.
Next up for the Bears will be home matchups against Mancos and Ignacio on Saturday, Sept. 28.
