From the spectacular mountains of Colorado to the rainforest of Costa Rica, Micki Rhodes’ travels have continually filled her with wonder and awe.
“As most artists find, there is an inner desire to share inspired expression with others through their mediums,” she said. “Mine is ceramic design.”
Inspired and becalmed by spending time with nature, Rhodes unique ceramic designs are featured at an opening reception on Friday, Sept. 27. The event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Artisans of Mancos gallery on Main Street.
“I love the flexibility and element of surprise that comes from working with clay,” Rhodes said. “Sometimes a piece designs itself, especially in my large sculptural vases. After I construct the piece, the designs emerge effortlessly. I like to contemplate how the creative consciousness does that. It leads to big thoughts.”
