Tuesday, Sept. 24
A vehicle was traveling east on Railroad Avenue in Dolores. The black SUV turned into The Dolores Post Office and an officer noticed that the driver’s side break light was not working. The officer checked the woman’s driver’s license status for warrants through dispatch, and they advised the woman had an active warrant out of Durango and her driver’s license had been canceled/denied. The woman was arrested and charged with driving a motor vehicle with license under restraint.
Wednesday, Sept. 25
An officer was patrolling near Maple Street and Main Street when he observed a black Chevy Impala traveling east on Main Street. The officer asked dispatch to check the plates for the registered owners information. Dispatch advised the officer that the plates came back registered to a blue Chevy Sedan. The officer asked the driver for his license, and the driver said he did not have a valid driver’s license. Dispatch said the driver of the vehicle had a revoked license in the state of Colorado for an alcohol-related offense. The officer arrested the driver, and then transported him to the Southwest Memorial Hospital for a medical clearance because the driver had consumed alcohol and refused to take a pre-entry PBT test. After the medical clearance, the man was transported to the jail where he was issued a summons for driving a vehicle while his license was revoked.
Thursday, Sept. 26
Police noticed a Jeep Cherokee traveling 30 mph in a posted 40 mph zone; the Jeep swerved off the road and then immediately corrected and re-entered its proper lane of travel. The police made contact with the driver and could smell an unknown alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. The driver said he just had a few drinks and asked if he could just go home since his house was just down the street. After checking with dispatch the officer learned that the man’s driver’s license had been revoked for an alcohol-related offense. The man agreed to perform roadside maneuvers, and he failed to complete them satisfactorily. The man was arrested and charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs or both, driving a vehicle while license was revoked and failure to drive in a single lane.
Thursday, Sept. 26
An officer was following a maroon Pontiac Grand Prix and asked dispatch to check the plates registration status. Dispatch told the officer that the registration was invalid because of a mandatory insurance suspension. The driver of the Pontiac explained that he had just got the vehicle back from it being repossessed, and he did not have a valid drivers license, but he had to drive because his passenger was falling asleep. Dispatch also advised the officer that the driver of the vehicle was not to be in contact with the passenger because of a restraining order and that the driver had three warrants. The male driver was placed into custody and charged with violating a protection order, financial responsibility/insurance and driving a motor vehicle while under FRA suspension.
Sunday, Sept. 29
A clerk at the Maverick gas station called to report some suspicious males in the parking lot. The woman stated every time she stepped outside to complete her work they would try to go in the store while it was unattended. The officer observed four males standing by a pickup truck and explained to them that they were making the clerk nervous. The four men said their truck broke down. The officer cleared all the men through dispatch; one of the men had an active warrant for failure to appear, and he was taken into custody.
