Building a community is dependent upon using available resources in collaborative ways.
That's the hope of organizers for the inaugural Mancos Valley Community Summit slated for Saturday, Oct. 12.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mancos Community Center. Free and open to the public, a light lunch will be provided.
"We have to raise the level of awareness of what resources we have across the spectrum, in the valley, and where we might find areas to collaborate," said Tami Graham, who has led efforts to convene the discussions.
Sponsored by Mancos Valley Resources, the nonprofit organization invites all residents of the Mancos Valley to the discussion.
"We will have breakout groups during the summit to address education; agriculture; health and wellness, arts and culture; history and heritage as well as recreation," she said.
President of Mancos Valley Resources, Graham said she has witnessed the power of bringing a group of people together with seemingly divergent interests.
Founded in 1987, Mancos Valley Resources is a community-based nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to preserving and enhancing the cultural, historical, recreational, educational and charitable assets of the Mancos Valley through grants and other funding sources.
