The Dolores Public Library is seeking a new director to administer day-to-day functions.
One of four public libraries in Montezuma County, the library is located in a modern venue with a view of the Dolores River.
A bachelor’s degree in library science is desired but not essential, according to library officials.
Applicants must be knowledgeable about, or be willing to come up to speed, on current library science and technology and possess strong organizational, decision-making, supervisory, grant-writing, and marketing skills.
The library board is seeking a director to lead a small, experienced staff and be an active community member, networking and collaborating with local schools, businesses and local government. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
“Administrative functions and personnel management consume the majority of the Director’s time,” said outgoing director Diana Donohue. “Management of the collection, oversight of circulation, and programming representing only 20% of the job.”
Donohue will continue working for the library part-time, but wishes to step down from her current responsibilities.
“The ideal candidate will have professional skills in accounting, budgeting, human resource functions, and facilities management,” explained Jeanne Becker, president of the Library board of directors.
The role of local libraries has changed in the last ten years, and the way the public gets information and shares knowledge has evolved. The new director will be in a position to help shape the future of the Dolores Library.
“This is an exciting time to be involved in a local library,” Becker said.
The library has a collection of about 21,000 items – everything from books, DVDs and CDs to sewing machines, backpacks, and children’s activity bags. The library offers adult and children’s programming throughout the year and maintains an active website and social media presence.
A cover letter and resume submitted in pdf format should be emailed to doloreslibrary4@gmail.com. Three professional references will be requested from finalists. A complete job description is available at www.doloreslibrary.org.
