The Mancos Creative District is currently accepting applications for a scholarship that will be awarded to one artistic student.
The Create 81328! Scholarship fund was established for public, private, or home-schooled student graduates residing in the 81328 ZIP code.
“It is very exciting to be able to help a deserving student,” said scholarship founder Maggie Goodell, who also directs the Mancos Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Visitor Center. “We hope to grow the amount we distribute in the coming years so we can help more of our talented artists and musicians cover college costs.”
The fund is a program of the Mancos Creative District. It aims to support college-bound students focusing on the arts.
This year’s goal is to award one student with a $1,000 scholarship, but the district hopes to support at least one other student too, possibly with a smaller amount, said Anne Beach, executive director of the district.
“We are grateful to the various anonymous donors and Mancos Valley Chamber of Commerce who have helped provide funding,” Goodell said.
To be considered for the scholarship, applicants should be an arts-focused student in the 81328 ZIP code pursuing post-secondary education in college, university, or vocational technical school.
The application includes: an artist’s statement, letter of recommendation, official transcripts, and work sample.
Applications are due by April 15. For more information or to apply, contact Anne Beach at anne@mancoscreativedistrict.com or 715-1774.
