Mancos will soon have a new face on its Town Board.
Janice Bryan is set to join the board this spring. Although there were four open seats this election season, only four people submitted petitions by the deadline – Bryan and three incumbents. The town is looking to cancel its upcoming municipal election and swear in the four trustees on April 8.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve the Mancos community,” Bryan told The Journal. “It’s an exciting time to be in Mancos.”
The incumbent candidates also set to be sworn in April 8 are Mayor Queenie Barz and trustees Ed Hallam and Cindy Simpson.
Bryan has lived in Southwest Colorado for more than 10 years, and specifically in Mancos for the last four years. She holds a bachelor’s degree in public health education and is a registered nurse.
She has worked as a nurse in hospitals and other public health settings for the past 25 years, along with serving on an international disaster team and on different task forces and boards.
Right now, she is part of an emergency preparedness board.
Bryan said she brings a unique skill set to the board, and will lead through “effective communication, collaboration and transparency,” she said in a statement.
“As a resident of Mancos, CO, I take joy in the outdoor opportunities the area offers,” she said. “I am a health conscious individual, enjoy mountain biking, hiking and fly-fishing. I am energetic and excited for an opportunity to serve as a Board of Trustee member.”
