Two Main Street businesses in Cortez have partnered to spearhead a holiday toy drive to show their appreciation for the community that supports them.
Blondie’s Trophy Room, a restaurant and bar, and Love on a Hanger, a women’s clothing store, have teamed up to hosts the toy drive. Residents are urged to help make the holidays a little brighter for the community by dropping off new or used toys at either location.
Love on a Hanger owner Tiffany Waters said she agreed to help because the community has helped keep her in business since 2011.
“The community supports me, and I want to help support my community,” she said.
Blondie’s owner Desmond Calhoon agreed, citing his Main Street restaurant has a long history of supporting the community, dating back to efforts by original owner, Patty Simmons.
“When my family took over ownership of Blondie’s in March, we knew we wanted to continue the tradition of contributing to the community,” said Calhoon. “We’re honored to be able to help give back to our town.”
The toy drive started this week and extends through Dec. 15. After the toys have been collected, each will be wrapped and then handed over to the Piñion Project for delivery.
To help spur donations, Waters said she is offering a $5 store gift card for every toy dropped off at Love on a Hanger.
“We are accepting any toy for any age group,” she said.
