Empire Electric solar project draws flak from Totten neighbors

Proposed array near Totten Lake is close to nesting eagles
Mike Conne walked down Main Street in Cortez recently to raise awareness of a solar project near an active eagle’s nest across from Totten Lake.
This active eagle’s nest is near a proposed Empire Electric solar project off Road 29. The solar project will help lower electric costs, but neighbors are worried it will disrupt the eagles and wildlife, The rural area includes wetlands, a Bureau of Reclamation Wildlife Area, Totten Lake Wildlife Area, power lines, residences, farms and ranches.
A large solar farm is proposed near the Simon Draw Wildlife Area.
