Two-way radios key to Rico avalanche rescue

Skiers’ change of plans contributed to accident, report says

The crown face of the avalanche ranged from 31 to 36 inches deep and was 250 feet wide. It ran approximately 640 vertical feet.
Avalanche debris was about 10 feet deep. Debris stopped on a flat bench.
A skier injured in an avalanche near Rico was transported by the Flight for Life helicopter.
