Growing Partners of Southwest Colorado present the Sixth Annual Homegrown Retreat – Home Cookin’: A Showcase of Regional Innovative Local Food Projects, at Durango’s Fort Lewis College in the Student Union Ballroom.
The retreat is sponsored by Fort Lewis College Environmental Center, Zia Taqueria, Sodexo, CSU Extension and Durango Natural Foods.
On Friday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m., Growing Partners welcomes keynote speaker Russell Evans, Director of Transition Lab, a living laboratory in Montrose, Colo. Russell Evans will speak about how students can create local food production, affordable housing, employment, community engagement, and cultivate leadership with their existing resources. Russell’s innovative approach to food and community recently received MIT Climate CoLab’s Local Solutions award.
On Saturday, Feb. 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. programs will address your critical role in the cultivation of change and innovation in our region. Saturday features a complimentary breakfast taco bar by Zia Taqueria and an all-local lunch along with networking and educational activities such as:
Farmer-chef connection; growing year-round; Farm to School panel; Montezuma Distribution Cooperative; what to grow, what not to grow; and seed library
