Emergency workers responded Tuesday afternoon to a report of a body in the Animas River behind Escalante Middle School in south Durango.
A rafting company was heading downstream when someone spotted the body in the water, said Cmdr. Ray Shupe with the Durango Police Department. The rafting guide pulled over downstream, waded upriver and was able to pull the body to shore, Shupe said.
The incident was reported at 4:25 p.m. Tuesday.
The victim was described as a man in his late 20s or early 30s. He had no obvious signs of trauma, although a thorough investigation had not been done. The individual was fully clothed as opposed to wearing swim trucks, Shupe said.
Authorities had not identified the victim as of 6 p.m.
