Exuding toughness and grit, Bears' 113-pound freshman Richard Martinez has been nothing short of spectacular in this, his first high school wrestling season.
A longtime middle school wrestler who brings a great deal of experience to the mat, Martinez is confident on the eve of his first state tournament.
"I hope to place in the top three," said Martinez. "I've trained hard and I want to win."
In light of his 29-11 season record, such success appears possible for Martinez, who will look back on his year with pride.
"I'll always remember winning that match to go to state," said Martinez.
