With more than three quarters of their roster missing at the Abel Velasquez Invitational in Bayfield on April 12, the Montezuma-Cortez High School boys and girls track teams had little opportunity for accomplishment from a team perspective.
That said, members of the Panthers teams that did compete managed to produce solid results.
Leading the way for the Panthers was junior Rachel Demby, who, adding two more impressive finishes to her already solid season, finished first in the 100-meter dash (13.47) and second in the 1600 (5:56.59).
Providing the top performance for the boys’ team was junior Justice Ramos, who finished third in the 1600 (5:13.95) and ninth in the 100 (12.46).
Freshman Josh Ramos finished fourth in the 1600 (5:18.12), while junior Chandler Dee finished sixth in the 1600 (5:27.54).
Rounding out the Panthers’ finishers as senior Briston Walker, who finished fourth in the discus (118 feet, four inches) and eighth in the 100 (12.46).
Next up for the Panthers will be the Ron Keller Invitational, which will take place in Durango on April 15.
